"TRAIN TO HEAVEN".

RAGAZZI – MUSIC

Music that is not overly complex and still wows „a real guy“, even causes you to cry out of joy- does that exist? YEAH!! Georgio Farina (keyboards) has achieved this feat by combining an excellent mix of rock, soul, funk and gospel in a fantastic manner, for the most part thanks to the quality of his team: Andy Linda (drums), Tobias Schwarz (bass), Oswin Ottl (guitar), Didi Holesch (guitar and mandolin), Manni Gruber (guitar and vocals), Stefan Reiser (saxophone and clarinet), Marion Dimbath (trombone), Reinhard Greiner (trumpet and flugelhorn) as well as Claudia Cane, an extraordinary singer who must be “black” deep inside, as there is no other way to explain such a soulful voice. Besides, there are a few more singers and two narrators. This music is literally wonderful, which is why I’d like to particularly point to the spiritual lyrics, which are really special in their own way and inspire to contemplate (and hopefully also act). "Don’t wait for a miracle. Be the miracle!“ it says in the promotion material of this accustic gem- how true. Through the sale of his material, Georgio supports various relief projects. If you are a music lover, you should listen to that sound by all means because this paragon of deep emotions combined with subtly swinging hammer grooves is absolutely unique.

The Georgio Farina LifeLine Project is one of the projects where it´s worth taking a look at the lyrics. The project came into being in the Dominican Republic and inures exclusively to the benefit of the charity organization “Kinder in Not” (“Children in Need”). Moreover it shows that the founder not only invested a lot of time but also really used his brain when founding it. To me, that is a great thing. Of course, the project comes with a whole bunch of songs that not only give you goose bumps during the shows but also have an important message, so to speak as some sort of side project. The album is a true gem and has a clear punch line. As usual, the music is endlessly multi-faceted („Jesus in Tibet“) and can truly rock, as shown in “Childhood”, which is a positive musical vision of the Georgio Faina Lifeline Project. Georgio Farina, the founder of the project, ranges from despair and anger to and appealing ambiance and comes across as consistently convinced, intensifying his multi-faceted achievement with a lot of emotions. On “Train To Heaven”, Georgio Farina presents excellent prop, rock, funk and soul music, attracting equal minded people and convincing, both lyrics and music-wise. Whether it comes to the almost epical songs or angry eruptions, everything matches perfectly. “Train to Heaven” is good, “Train to Heaven” is freaking good!

MAGAZINE MUSIKZIRKUS

Lately, I happened to get a CD from a guy called Georgio Farina, whom I had never heard of until then. The design of the cover points to a religious background and song titles like “Walk in Peace”, “Jesus in Tibet” or “Gospel, Spirit, Love and Faith” all point into the same direction. Initially, that made me a bit skeptical. However, taking a look at what the media says, it becomes obvious that we’re talking of a musician whose focus is not on commercial marketing but on supporting humanitarian relief projects in his adopted country. For that purpose, he seeked support from various musicians.
A few words about Georgio: The fourty-two- year-old musician was born in Munich. Growing up with the music of Cream and Led Zeppelin, he found his passion for rock music, which inspired him to found a band during high school. Meanwhile, he left Germany and lives on the Caribbean Island Hispaniola. As he has a big heart for the natives, he founded the Georgio Farina Lifeline Project. “With that project, Georgio combines performance and commitment of various musicians, writers, graphic designers, audio engineers, stage designers and cameramen. That way, he can live out his artistic streak on a high level and at the same time gives back part of the proceeds to the village schools and small clinics of his adopted country.”
But let’s get back to his music, which plays the most important role in reviews, of course. Together with 15 musicians, male and female singers he created 12 songs that are a mélange of pop, rock, funk and soul. Apart from that, there are another four bonus tracks consisting of alternative versions, among others two songs that are sung in German.
Although Georgio uses Christian-spiritual lyrics, his music is by no means overly sophisticated or exaggerated, which becomes clear in „Walk In Peace“, which sounds a little like a mélange of Toto and Phil Collins, due to the Wah-Wah-guitar and its rocky sound, underlined with wind instruments. „Don’t Look Back“ is a sparking song, pure funk with a singer whose voice reminds a bit of Anastacia (her voice lies somewhere in between Anastacia and Tina Turner, also in the other songs). “Light of God” is a really groovy rock song. It is definitely stadion rock quality and contains some great solo parts.
Also all the other songs are catchy, sometimes rather rocky, sometimes with a flavor of soul or funk. And “Global War(m)ning” even has a touch of progressive rock. Thanks to the integration of a violin, that song even has a whiff of Kansas-sound.
The only drawback of the CD is the fact that the pauses in between the tracks do not correspond exactly with the index (at least I happened to notice that phenomenon on my computer while I was writing this review). The 24-pages booklet is very nice, contains the lyrics of all songs and shows pictures of the musicians and the whole choir below.
„Train To Heaven“ is an outstanding CD – both music and sound-wise. Whoever fancies rock/pop with a decent portion of funk and soul will love this CD, whilst helping a good cause.

ROCKTIMES – CD review

A lot of musicians and singers are mentioned in the line-up, for instance guitarist Mani Gruber, who used to be member of the BoysVoice Band. Andy Lind, a drummer, comes from Freaky Fucking Weirdoz and Tobias Schwartz,a bassist, plucks the strings at Ringswandel.
Frequently, wind instruments are used in the songs. They do deserve credit, as they were really playing in the recording studio, making the sound very authentic.
The production and sound of „Train To Heaven“ cannot get negative criticism and especially when the trio Marion Dimbath (trombone), Stephan Reiser (saxophone, clarinet) and Reinhard Greiner (trumpet) comes into play, it gets freaking hot. And if the guitarists were playing in the front, you would have to call the firemen. “Angel Talk” is a dangerously hot song that invites keyboarders, guitars, woodwinds and wind instruments to let off steam.
Claudia Cane can be proud of her Tina-Turner-like voice and the choruses are simply good.
Funk, soul, rock and gospel are part of the „menu“of the LifeLine Project.
The above mentioned genres are brought out well in the tracks, and let’s just get back to the previously mentioned „Angel Talk“: In that song, the guitars partially tend to metal and the saxophone veers toward jazz. You really cannot complain… it rocks!
Moreover, the CD boasts a mighty funky title song that is absolute fun to listen to. All wind instrument players have a solo part. And now, I’d like to know the three musicians‘ background.
Aha! Marion Dimbath plays in a Jazz-trio called Triorange. Stephan Reiser is member of Marty And His Rockin‘ Comets, just like Reinhard Greiner, who, besides, plays for Christian Willisohn.
Wherever there is glistening light, there are also shadows.
No hard feelings but „Childhood (The Chimes) “is simply overly emotional. Probably that song will make it into one of the major Christmas programs and appeal to a broad audience. As for myself, I rather have an individual opinion with regard to that.
The impression that “Jesus in Tibet” makes on the audience is clear from the beginning: Percussion that sounds as if it came from the highlands, although the sound was created with a percussion computer program. The guitar is rocky in this song, too, and Donald Arthur’s low voice suits excellently. As with other songs, there are further versions of this song that come as bonus tracks. There are two more versions of the latter: an instrumental version and one with lyrics in German.
„Radio Edit“ is so to speak the „little brother“ of „Walk In Peace“ and „Don’t look back“ the corresponding German „little sister“.
To put it in a nutshell, the songs of „Train To Heaven“are all very different. A few ones you will enjoy listening to…more than once. However, a considerable number of tracks are no favorites.
As for the religious statements (also in the lyrics), I am not going to comment on them .
The good cause is commendable!

ABOUT THE MUSIC - CD REVIEW

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. “ (Mathew 22,37)
Georgio Farina, who chose to live in the Dominican Republic, has apparently imbibed this „double commandment of love“ expressed by Jesus from his infancy. With his lyrics he admits to his cosmopolitan faith in Jesus Christ, a faith that is clearly no competition to other credos but rather an alternative next to other beliefs.
„And FATHER, it really doesn’t matter in what verses people pray to YOU. The only thing that matters is what you demand of me. “
Obviously, Georgio Farina takes this demand seriously. In his adopted country, Georgio Farina can live out his artistic streak on a high level, whilst instantly giving back part of the proceeds to the village schools and small clinics in his adopted country”, it says in the promotion text.
Farina accompanies “Train To Heaven” with highly professionally produced soul-pop, which sometimes reminds you of Phil Collin’s solo albums.
Over and over again, the wind instruments stand out with solo parts and enthralling grooves underline the melodies. In several cases, a pinch of funk was added to the song „Angel Talk“and a spherical sound (“Jesus in Tibet (Instrumental Version)”).
Tear jerkers like „Tears of a heartbroken Child“are an exception.
To sum up, it is maybe not the masterpiece of the century but definitely perfect mainstream-entertainment with a meaningful content!

HOOKED ON MUSIC - CD-Review

It is definitely possible to combine business with a good cause, Georgio Farina probably thought when he started to work on “Train to Heaven”.
Georgio, who was born in Munich and is meanwhile resident of the Caribbean Island Hispaniola, had mainly two things in mind: On the one hand, come to the aid of the relatively impoverished people of his adopted country with the proceeds of the records sold and on the other hand emphasize his nearness to God with his lyrics.
Altogether it took him three years before him and his 12 team members were able to publish the first CD of the GEORGIO FARINA LIFELLINE PROJECT.
In view of that, the outcome sounds quite well thought out and absolutely multi-faceted. The first three tracks Walk In Peace, Don’t Look Back and Train To Heaven (Lift Me Up!) come up with quite some groove and funk.
In between, there are a few pop ballades that frequently drift a little too much to kitsch, in my opinion. Apart from that, Farina perfectly understands the technique of combining gospel, pop and funk sound. Only the song Jesus in Tibet (available in three different versions) sounds a little strange.
In the beginning, the song sounds a little like a sermon in the sound of New Age but then turns into a rock song that might just as well stem from SAGA.
The same applies to the following song Global War(m)ning.
Even though sometimes the CD sounds a little „sterile“, the debut album of GEORGIO FARINA LIFELINE PROJECT is definitely a success. Apart from a few ballades, “Train To Heaven” really offers great songs from real good musicians.
On top of that, every “Train to Heaven” CD you purchase will help the people of the Dominican Republic, which might be a nice idea for your next Christmas gift to your family.
